#WCW Mermaid at Heart, Claire Porter

Happy Wednesday, loves! We are so excited to introduce to you all to our girl-power enthusiast, adventure-loving and strong redhead Mermaid at Heart, Claire – an Alpha Delta Pi from the University of Southern California! She is currently studying abroad in SPAIN – so cool, right? This week she gets real with us about all things L.A., girl power, and everyone’s favorite… food! We know you’ll love her as much as we do. Merbabes, meet Claire!

Q. What is your favorite part of your college town?
A. My college town is a college CITY — the city of Los Angeles. The City of Angels! And honestly…I’m not a fan. Los Angeles isn’t for me. But that’s okay! Although I don’t like LA, I sure do like the food! When I want to hang out or catch up with friends, I almost always do it at a restaurant. My favorites are Zinc, Zinque (yes…I know. Two different spellings, two different restaurants), True Food Kitchen, Bacaro, and Takami.

Q. What are you most looking forward to this semester?
A. EXPLORING EUROPE! I’m currently studying abroad in London and absolutely LOVING IT! I’m actually packing up for Barcelona as we speak! I went to Paris two weeks ago and have plans to go to Ireland (for St. Patrick’s Day of course!), Berlin, and Amsterdam, and will probably go back to Paris once it’s warmer. The January sales in Paris are incredible. The weather is not.

Q. What does sisterhood mean to you?
A. Sisterhood to me means gaining an immediate second family. At ADPi, we are all connected by our desire to get involved both within our sorority and within our school and community. We lift and inspire each other daily. We genuinely care about the well-being of one another. Now that I live in my sorority house, I have created inseparable bonds with my roommates far faster than any previous friendship, and it is because of our existing sisterhood.

Q. What are you most passionate about?
A. I am most passionate about feminism and the idea of creating positive girl culture in which we lift each other up instead of bash one another.

Q. What attracted you most to Ali & Ariel?
A. Ali & Ariel fulfills my interests in my sorority and in feminism. Ali & Ariel apparel is cute and fun — tops and hats that make me proud to flaunt my letters or cute mermaid inspired shirts that make me really feel like a mermaid when paired with my red hair. But it also appeals to feminist themes with attire like “I’ve seen the future she’s female” and “I believe in mermaids and girl power.”

Q. What is your best piece of advice for young women?
A. You are more powerful than you may think.

Q. What is your number one beauty staple?
A. Mascara — without it, I look like a 12 year old boy
